Littmann Ear Tips and Diaphragm Replacement: When and How to Do It

Short answer: Replace your Littmann ear tips when they become hard, cracked, loose or uncomfortable, and replace the diaphragm when it is cracked, warped or no longer sits flat. Genuine replacement parts exist for Littmann models, including snap-tight soft-sealing eartips, tunable diaphragms and non-chill bell sleeves or rims. In our store, replacement parts cost about ₱496 to ₱1,841 (November 2026), so it is a small cost compared with buying a new steth.

Which Littmann parts can be replaced?

Part What it does Signs it needs replacing
Snap-tight soft-sealing eartips Seal the earpieces in your ears and block outside noise Hard, cracked, sticky, loose, or uncomfortable after a long duty
Tunable diaphragm Picks up sound on the chestpiece and lets you tune by pressure Cracked, scratched deeply, warped, or no longer sitting flat
Non-chill bell sleeve / rim Holds the diaphragm in place or forms a warmer open bell Cracked, stretched, or loose on the chestpiece

Parts are model-specific. A diaphragm for a Classic III adult side is not the same as one for a Master Cardiology, so always choose parts for your exact model. Check the model name on your box or invoice before ordering, and if you are not sure, have your serial number ready when you contact us. You can browse them on the Littmann replacement parts page.

How do you know your eartips are worn out?

Eartips wear faster than any other part because they touch skin, earwax and cleaning alcohol every day. If sound seems weaker than before, check the eartips first. Hardened or cracked tips do not seal well, so outside noise leaks in. Loose tips can also come off during duty. If your ears hurt after a shift, a different eartip may simply fit you better. Eartips are also personal items: if your steth was used by someone else before, fresh eartips are a simple hygiene step.

How do you replace Littmann eartips?

  1. Hold the headset firmly by the metal eartube.
  2. Pull the old eartip straight off; a slight twist can help.
  3. Clean the end of the eartube with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Push the new snap-tight eartip onto the eartube until it clicks firmly into place.
  5. Tug gently to confirm it is secure, then repeat on the other side.
  6. Put the earpieces in, angled forward, and check the seal and sound.

How do you replace a Littmann diaphragm?

  1. Note which side of the chestpiece you are working on and which part fits that side.
  2. Peel the rim off the chestpiece by working it loose with your fingers, starting at one point.
  3. Remove the old diaphragm and wipe the chestpiece with 70% isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Place the new diaphragm into the rim, or onto the chestpiece, as the replacement part is designed.
  5. Work the rim back onto the chestpiece evenly all the way around, so the diaphragm sits flat.
  6. Tap the diaphragm to check sound, and test light and firm pressure to confirm it tunes.

On the Classic III, the pediatric side can be converted to a traditional open bell by swapping the diaphragm for the non-chill bell sleeve.

How can you make parts last longer?

  • Wipe the chestpiece, tubing and eartips with 70% isopropyl alcohol, and remove the eartips to clean them.
  • Do not immerse the stethoscope in liquid or sterilize it.
  • Keep oils, lotions and solvents off the tubing.
  • Store the steth away from extreme heat or cold, ideally in a case. Stethoscope cases in our store cost about ₱1,370 to ₱1,500.

Replace a part or contact warranty support?

Eartips and diaphragms are parts you replace yourself as they wear. If something else seems wrong, such as a problem with the chestpiece or tubing, check the warranty information page and contact the seller or Littmann customer service with your serial number and invoice. After fitting new parts, a quick review of how to use a stethoscope helps confirm everything sounds right. For choosing a model or parts, see the Littmann Knowledge Center.

Frequently asked questions

How often should I replace Littmann ear tips?

Replace them whenever they become hard, cracked, sticky, loose or uncomfortable. Eartips wear faster than other parts because they are in daily contact with skin and cleaning alcohol.

Can I buy replacement parts for my Littmann stethoscope?

Yes. Genuine replacement parts include snap-tight soft-sealing eartips, tunable diaphragms and non-chill bell sleeves or rims. In our store they cost about ₱496 to ₱1,841 as of November 2026.

Are Littmann diaphragms the same for all models?

No. Diaphragms and rims are model-specific, so choose the replacement made for your exact model and chestpiece side.

Why does my Littmann sound weaker than before?

Worn or hardened eartips that no longer seal, or a cracked or loose diaphragm, are common causes. Also check that the earpieces are angled forward and that the correct chestpiece side is open.
