General Stethoscope Questions
I can’t hear anything from my stethoscope. Is it faulty?

Are Littmann® stethoscopes latex-free?
Yes — Littmann® stethoscopes use Next Generation Tubing that’s free of natural rubber latex and phthalate plasticizers.
Can I use a Littmann® stethoscope during an MRI?
No. All Littmann® stethoscopes contain metal parts and are not MRI-safe.
What’s the advantage of a tunable diaphragm?
A 3M-exclusive feature, the tunable diaphragm lets you hear both low and high-frequency sounds without turning over the chestpiece.
Light pressure = low frequencies
Firm pressure = high frequencies
It saves time and lets you focus on your patient, not your equipment.
How can I be sure I’m buying an authentic Littmann® stethoscope?

Cleaning & Care
How do I clean my stethoscope? Can I sterilize it?
Clean your Littmann® stethoscope with a 70% isopropyl alcohol wipe between patients.
Do not use hand sanitizers, immerse it in liquid, or sterilize it with high-heat methods.
Why does my stethoscope tubing become stiff over time?
PVC tubing can harden after years of skin contact due to natural body oils. We recommend wearing your stethoscope over your collar to prevent this.

Can the Classic II Infant Stethoscope be used on neonates?
Yes, though some neonatal specialists find its diaphragm and bell a little large for optimal contact on neonates.
When does the warranty period start?
Your warranty starts from the purchase date on your original receipt. If the receipt isn’t available, the warranty will be based on the manufacturing date.
